fbic titles: you'll always have a home in me

you'll always have a home in me - eli updates their tattoo. declan's there to witness, this time.

declan sits with his hands folded over eli's, firmly holding their arm down, his back slouched so he can rest his head lightly atop the pile. his eyes are fixed on the faint purple stencil on their forearm, spelling out three names and a familiar set of coords.

"wha-at if we mo-ve?" he finally asks. eli snorts, fussing with the ink and the needle. "i'm seri-ious!"

"you probably wouldn't like the answer."

"do-on't tell me it's cut-ting your arm off!" they pause and look over at him, eyebrows raised. he sticks his tongue out, eyebrows furrowed, the perfect picture of indignity at being questioned.

"... dec. why would i have to cut my arm off?"

"it's an ans-wer and i do-on't like it."

"well- i'm not doing that. it would be a lot more localized, first of all," they hum, and declan's face scrunches back at the implication. "second of all, 's not... that's not the point. i mean- finding my way home is kind of the point, but-"

eli exhales through their teeth, shakes their head. declan's expression smooths out, softens as he listens, one ear flicking. "i haven't- it wasn't- this is the first time... the first place that's been- home. somewhere safe. even if we move, it's- significant. i'd just have to update it a little more. don't actually go here, bud, something like that."

"paren-rentheses, OLD, end pare-entheses."

"'xactly." declan bites back a laugh, canine caught on his lip. eli flicks their gaze back to the needle. "anyways, if i came back and you weren't here, it'd tip me off pretty quick. once things started- working again, anyway."

"bru-ush your gre-ey wings on my he-ad- i'd come fi-ind you, too! rea-al fast."

"i know," they murmur. it's hard to stifle the terribly sappy smile that tugs at their lips. they don't try. "'m counting on it."
